Ryan's favorite class this year has been Men's Choir. It's been so fun to watch him perform. Because it is such a small class they have been able to add some choreography to their songs. My favorite was when the Men's Choir sang "A Whale of A Tale" complete with mops and sailor hats! My computer has a glitch so I can't upload the video.
Ryan has been playing on his school's Unified soccer team this spring. It's a co-ed team sponsored by the Special Olympics. The team is made up of kids with disabilities along with peer mentors. It's a great way to give kids who wouldn't ordinarily have the opportunity to play on a team a chance to participate. I love watching these kids play, they are just out there for fun. It's sheer joy! Everyone claps for everyone, even the other team. I was touched by a big goalie jumping over the ball so a little girl with Down syndrome could make a goal. (She had tried several times with out success.) I had some mixed feelings about Ryan playing on the team. I am often worried that he will be given labels which will limit him later in life. Ryan is good example to me because he doesn't worry about what people think. Ryan enjoys hanging out with all the kids on his team, typical and non typical.
As usual it's hard to get a good picture of Ryan, but I like this one because of his smiling eyes!
Soccer game at Bingham High School. Of course Ryan is wearing his hoodie under his uniform and his shades! :)
Football anyone?
